Housing types in Nottingham:
Reasons for the distribution of different residential areas:
Constraints: expensive for some socio-economic groups - working class, low income families
Opportunities: nice safe environment to bring up children
Young professionals - Some inner city areas have been redeveloped such as the Lace Market – these attract young, single, professionals who want to live close to the CBD.
Tenure: rented from private landlords or brought through mixed lending schemes
Constraints: very expensive accommodation - excludes OAPs, working class and low income families
Opportunities: close to CBD for both jobs and entertainment
Young families and first time buyers - Gamston – Radcliffe – Bingham (as you leave the city) – Newer, smaller houses built on greenfield land. Good transport links in
and out of city. Affordable housing.
Tenure: some local authority housing, private landlord and owner occupied
Constraints: workers will have to drive or rely on public transport to get to the CBD
Opportunities: pleasant environment with a relatively low crime rate.
